I am not really a materialistic gal. Don't get me wrong, I do like nice things, but only when the time is right. I get more joy out of knowing that the bills are paid and that I have a nice cushion the bank in case something should go awry or in case a great travel/adventure opportunity comes our way that is too good to resist. But last night I had a little fun.
I have been wanting to get the hubs a new North Face jacket for sometime. The one has now he has worn since 1997 (I am almost ashamed to say that) so wanted to treat him in a big way. There is just something so much fun about getting something for someone you love at such a very unexpected time.
I have been researching diffent jackets for a while trying to find just the right one and at the right price. Let me tell you something, The North Face doesn't believe in sales - they just don't exist. But oh well, they have a one-owner lifetime guarantee and Daddy is so worth it. So anyway, I think I have found the right one and I call the store to put it on hold because I am not paying for shipping when I live 20 minutes away - no way, no how!
Last night after Daddy left for work, me and Butter McBean headed to Easton to make the big purchase. I took one look at the jacket I put on hold and decided it was not what I had in mind. I carefully searched the store for something better, but all the ones I really liked forced me to spend a little more money. I bit the bullet and got the one I really liked and it only took me about 10 - so much for research.
We brought home our exciting little package and after Soren was tucked in his bed I got to work. In the box it went, but what about a card? Having a little extra craft supplies leads to great things. I cut out a heart in red felt and glued little puff balls on the heart in the shape of a U. I was so happy with it - very, very cute.
Daddy got home on time thankfully because I was getting way too excited. I sat casually on the couch when he came in the door and asked about his night and his students. Finally, he made his way to the kitchen and came running back into the living room with the box and the excitement of a little boy. He opened and was amazed and a little perplexed - "this is so awesome, but so unexpected". Success!
I have learned to keep little things (and sometimes big things) in my back pocket and then bring them out at a good time. It is so much fun and really breaks up the day-to-day! Speaking of new ideas, I got a few more today :)
