Soren and I went to the grocery store earlier this week to pick up a few things. The visit was pretty typical....until we got to the check out station. Since I didn't have a cart full and the manned check out stations were very busy I went for the U-scan (first mistake). Soren is adamant about pushing buttons and doing it himself so he was very eager to push the buttons on the screen and get the scanning show on the road.
Well, Soren pushed the Start button, but in Spanish. I figured I have been to the grocery store a million times and have operated the U-scan a few thousand so I thought "No big deal, I can get through this" (second mistake). I checked out all my bar coded items and then it was on to the produce. Holy produce! We seem to always have a ton. I guess I wasn't really thinking that I needed to know the Spanish names for all the produce and the Spanish translation on how to enter the produce - "enter the code number", "enter the quantity", "push the Done button when finished" - oops, 4 years of high school French and one year in college really wasn't not paying off at this point (third mistake).
At this point Soren started FREAKING out because he could not push the buttons and was ready to climb out of the seat. Meanwhile, I started FREAKING out because I was ringing up limes instead of green onions and in no way, shape, or form was I going to pay for something I did not buy and Soren was driving me nuts with his whining about pushing the buttons, and the line behind me was getting longer. Meanwhile, I had to go get the cashier to take off the limes. Argggghhhh!
We got the limes taken off, but I still think I ended up buying elephant garlic instead of regular, small garlic, but I didn't care anymore as long it was garlic and it was on my receipt (at this point, I didn't want to get held up my the grocery store police with stolen garlic head). With only two more items left to go I finally discovered the English button at the bottom of the screen. Praise the Lord! We finally made it out of the store and loaded into the car a little frazzled, but a little more educated on the U-scan features and the right code for green onions.
