For the past couple of days I have been analyzing our house and trying to figure out how we can improve in the way of interior design. I am doing this for two reasons 1) I want to live in a more attractive environment (not that it is bad right now) and 2) we think it will add more appeal when we try to sell.
Project 1: The teeny weeny half bathroom in the basement. Weird I know, but it is a great place to start - nice clean slate. To start with I am going to tear up the linoleum and put a neutral, way more modern type down. Right now it looks like the 1970s barfed all over the floor. Next, the hubster is going to help me clean up the vanity and sink mechanical issues and then I am going to paint the vanity cabinet (not sure the color yet, I am bringing in my friend that is in design school right now to help out - SCORE!). After that comes the accessories, a towel hook, hardware for the vanity cabinet, new mirror, and cabinet over the toilet. I will be checking out Goodwill and Salvation Army for some good deals that can possibly be fixed up a bit. Not sure if I am going to paint. Even if I do it shouldn't be too bad considering how small the space is. We shall see.
Project 2: Finding miscellaneous things that are needed in each room - I have a list made up to keep me focused and within the budget. I think my primary focus is more stuff for the walls.
Project 3: The Kitchen! This has been ongoing project for a few years. We did the floors, paint, wallpapered one wall, new sliding door, and put in gently used applicances (thanks to our in-laws that were also redoing their kitchen gave us their old stuff which was not bad at all), and new garbage disposal and faucet. Looking back we have done a lot, but things need to finished up so get the whole effect. The next big thing is refacing the cabinets. I have convinced my husband to go ahead and order the cabinets and I can work on sanding, priming, painting, and hardware in the evenings especially when the cold weather hits (my little one goes to bed at 9:00pm so that leaves me at least an hour or two to get some work done). I should have everything done by the spring if not soon and by then the hubster will have time to help with installation. (why the long delay? my honey is starting a new teaching position and will need lots of time for his classes). After the cabinets, we will hopefully be focusing on countertops, but I will save that for another post as I have no idea how that is going to turn out.
Well, I think that should keep me busy for a while. I hope there aren't too many obstacles that get in the way, but at least I have plan for now.
